29 Jul. 06:28Higher education institutions in Turkmenistan have officially launched the entrance examination period for candidate selection. In accordance with the academic calendar, the examination process is scheduled to take place continuously from July 29 through August 20, marking a critical stage for prospective students seeking university admission for the upcoming academic year.
The framework for the current admission cycle follows guidelines emphasizing organizational efficiency and assessment integrity. The administrative stage of the campaign commenced earlier with the documentation submission window, which operated from July 13 to July 26. Educational institutions were fully equipped to process applications, ensuring a streamlined transition to the competitive examination phase.
For the current academic cycle, higher education enrollment capacity has expanded to accommodate over 18,000 students, representing an increase of 1,239 seats compared to the previous year. To align higher education with modern economic requirements, 20 new specialized fields have been introduced, spanning specialist, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs. Meanwhile, secondary professional educational institutions will continue accepting application files until August 17.

A rye-wheat loaf preserved in a freezer for 36 years has been put on public display as part of the permanent exhibition at the Deutschlandmuseum in Berlin. Dubbed "The Last Loaf of the GDR," it was originally purchased on June 26, 1990, by student Michael Hagedorn, who bought an extra loaf fearing potential food shortages amidst the economic unification of East and West Germany.
The museum's director, Robert Rückel, described the unusual artifact as a unique poignant symbol of everyday human decisions during times of monumental geopolitical change. To maintain its preserved state, the museum installed a custom refrigeration unit where the historical loaf remains permanently frozen for visitors to view.
