Yesterday, the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, D. Geldiyeva, held an official meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan, Lee Won-jae. During the high-level briefing, the diplomat was thoroughly introduced to the structure and function of the national parliament, the ongoing legislative reforms designed to modernize the legal code, and the humanitarian foreign policy framework of Turkmenistan. Special attention was drawn to Ashgabat's global initiatives aimed at promoting peace, maritime security, and sustainable macroeconomic stability.

The interlocutors noted that due to the strategic vision of both Heads of State, bilateral interaction has achieved a dynamic and mutually productive character. The rich historical experience of Turkmen-Korean relations has yielded substantial progress across political, commercial, and cultural-humanitarian domains. The speaker of the parliament specifically praised the immense technical and industrial contributions of leading Korean conglomerates in executing multi-billion dollar projects within Turkmenistan's petrochemical complex, highway transport networks, and advanced shipbuilding sectors.

The parties highly commended the performance of the "Central Asia — Republic Korea" cooperation platform, identifying it as a powerful driver for comprehensive economic integration and regional dialogue. Both sides reconfirmed their shared commitment to advancing this multilateral partnership framework, which successfully aligns Central Asian logistical capacities with South Korea's premier industrial technologies, setting a robust benchmark for future cross-border investment projects.

In conclusion, the meeting highlighted that inter-parliamentary dialogue has firmly established itself as a critical pillar of bilateral diplomacy. The officials agreed that maximizing the output of parliamentary friendship groups and hosting joint forums for young legislators and women parliamentarians are key to sharing advanced legislative best practices. This collaborative institutional engagement is expected to play a critical role in fortifying the legal framework supporting trade and mutual understanding between the two nations.

High school students in Detroit, Michigan, who maintain consistent school attendance can earn up to $1,000 in electronic gift cards. According to Fox News, high schoolers receive a $100 digital gift card for every week of uninterrupted class attendance. Students can earn $400 across four weeks, with total incentives reaching up to $1,000 during the 10-week winter period.

The attendance incentive model demonstrated strong results between January and March 2026, when approximately 12,800 high school students—representing 84% of the district's high school population—qualified for the payments. Concurrently, chronic absenteeism dropped from 64% to 54%. Following this success, the program has been extended through the 2026–2027 academic year and expanded to include students in grades 6–8, who will receive $50 for each week of full attendance.

The school district allocated $13.9 million from its overall budget to combat unexcused absences. The program maintains strict criteria: a single unexcused absence during any given school week forfeits the student's eligibility for that week's reward.
