Central Asian nations have formally backed the implementation framework for an automated water-resource tracking system targeting the Syr Darya basin, as confirmed by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

The consensus was reached during the 94th session of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) held in Turkestan. The conference brought together senior water and energy officials, including Turkmenistan's State Committee for Water Management Chairman Durdy Genjiyev, alongside ministerial counterparts from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, regional administrators, and Kyrgyz observers.

The agenda centered on setting extraction limits and reservoir operating schedules across the Syr Darya and Amu Darya basins for the 2026 agricultural season. To operationalize the digital monitoring system, an inter-state task force will be convened by September.

Delegates also reviewed joint progress on the World Bank-assisted CAWEC efficiency initiative and the mandates set by the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS). Turkmenistan will host the commission's upcoming 95th gathering.
