With this achievement, James Cameron made cinematic history by becoming the only director whose four films have individually earned more than $1 billion in global box office receipts. The earlier titles reaching this level were “Titanic,” the original “Avatar,” and “Avatar: The Way of Water.” “Titanic,” released in 1997, accumulated $2.2 billion, while “Avatar” (2009) remains the highest-grossing film of all time with $2.9 billion.
