Ashgabat to host eco-festival focused on environmental awareness and sustainability

This upcoming event aims to promote ecological culture among urban residents, foster sustainable habits, and raise public awareness regarding the critical importance of environmental preservation in modern society.
The organizers have scheduled a diverse and engaging educational program suitable for attendees of all generations. The event venue will feature specialized STEM learning stations, interactive environmental games, and hands-on creative workshops conducted by experts. To enhance the overall visitor experience, the festival grounds will be accompanied by continuous live music performances throughout the day.
A core practical element of the festival involves encouraging waste reduction and promoting the principles of a circular economy. Visitors are invited to contribute to global conservation efforts by bringing recyclable plastic bottles or pre-owned garments for a dedicated clothing swap counter. Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
