A Telephone Conversation Took Place Between the National Leader of the Turkmen People and the President of Uzbekistan
21 Mar. 05:17At the initiative of the Turkmen side, a telephone conversation was held between the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. As reported by the "Watan" news program, the leaders warmly greeted each other and exchanged heartfelt congratulations on the upcoming sacred holiday of Eid al-Fitr, wishing peace and prosperity to the brotherly people of both nations.
During the conversation, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev extended his sincere congratulations to the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on the 4th anniversary of his inauguration. The interlocutors emphasized that the friendship, brotherhood, and mutual understanding between the two nations are continuously strengthening. They highlighted the importance of cultural and humanitarian cooperation as a key element in maintaining the long-standing neighborly relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The leaders also discussed the current state of bilateral cooperation, noting the successful development of ties in trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural fields. They gave a high appraisal of the work carried out by the joint Turkmen-Uzbek intergovernmental commission. In this context, the National Leader of the Turkmen people invited President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to visit Turkmenistan at the head of a high-level delegation to participate in upcoming international summits and scheduled meetings.
At the end of the conversation, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev wished each other robust health and continued success in their state duties, while wishing the brotherly people of both countries lasting peace and well-being. This telephone dialogue once again demonstrated the commitment of both states to furthering their strategic partnership and ensuring regional stability through constructive and high-level engagement.

The People's Republic of Bangladesh has appointed a new head of state following a voting procedure in the national parliament. Representative of the Nationalist Party, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has assumed the highest state office. The newly elected leader has already begun receiving official congratulations from foreign counterparts.

In his address, the Turkmen head of state expressed warm wishes on the occasion of his election to the high post. The political transition was necessitated by the early resignation of former head of state Mohammed Shahabuddin. The previous leader stepped down due to health reasons, which required the parliament to organize elections to fill the vacant presidential post.
The parliamentary vote to elect the head of state took place on August 20, 2026. Following the count, candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir secured a decisive victory with 255 votes from lawmakers, while his competitor Oli Ahmed received 88 votes.
