The French Football Federation has officially announced via its media channels the appointment of 54-year-old manager Zinedine Zidane as the new head coach of the France national football team. The former Real Madrid manager takes charge of the national team under a long-term employment contract that will remain valid through 2030.

Zidane succeeds Didier Deschamps, who concluded his tenure with the national side following the completion of the 2026 World Cup. This appointment marks a planned transition at the helm of the national squad, initiating a strategic restructuring ahead of upcoming international competitions.

During the recent World Cup held in North America, the French national team progressed to the semifinal stage of the tournament. However, their campaign fell short of the final following a 0-2 loss to Spain in the semifinals, which was subsequently followed by a 4-6 defeat against England in the third-place playoff match.

At the club level, Zidane's managerial career was defined by two successful spells at Real Madrid, spanning 2016 to 2018 and 2019 to 2021. Under his leadership, the Spanish club secured 11 major titles, including three consecutive UEFA Champions League trophies. This official appointment concludes his sabbatical from active coaching, which had been ongoing since 2021.
