A Colombian military aircraft crashed during flight on March 23, 2026, resulting in a devastating loss of life. According to reports from "MIR 24," 66 people have been confirmed dead, while four others remain missing. The accident occurred in Puerto Leguizamo, a region near the border with Peru. At the time of the crash, the plane was carrying 128 military personnel.
Preliminary findings suggest that the aircraft struck a building located at the end of the runway before making contact with trees and catching fire. The intensity of the impact and subsequent fire made rescue operations particularly difficult. Emergency teams have been working tirelessly at the crash site to recover victims and secure the area for investigators.
The head of the Colombian military forces, Hugo Alejandro Lopez, shared updates regarding the survivors. He stated that out of the 57 individuals who sustained injuries, 30 are currently in stable condition and are no longer in critical danger. The remaining survivors are receiving urgent medical care in local hospitals as health professionals prioritize their recovery.
As reported by "CNBC," a full-scale investigation into the causes of the disaster is now underway. Officials are examining whether technical failure, pilot error, or environmental factors contributed to the collision. The crash stands as one of the deadliest aviation incidents involving the country’s armed forces in recent history, prompting a period of national mourning.
