On Sunday, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Balıkesir Province in northwestern Turkey, resulting in one fatality and 29 injuries, according to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
The victim was an 81-year-old man. All injured individuals are in stable condition, and no one is critically hurt. Search and rescue operations have concluded.
The quake caused structural damage, particularly in rural areas where 16 buildings collapsed — 12 of which were abandoned.
Turkey lies in a seismically active region and frequently experiences earthquakes of varying intensity.
