Aydogdy Amadyyev, one of Turkmenistan’s most esteemed centenarians and a distinguished veteran of World War II, was recently honored on the occasion of Victory Day. At 108 years old, the Mary province resident received a special delegation comprising representatives from the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan and various regional public organizations. This annual tradition reflects the nation’s deep commitment to honoring the sacrifices of those who served during the global conflict of 1941–1945.
During the visit, the veteran was presented with commemorative gifts and fresh flowers as tokens of national gratitude. The event also featured a cultural performance by the "Kuwwat" student musical ensemble, who performed a selection of patriotic songs. Engaging with the younger generation, the veteran shared reflections on his long life, providing students with a rare opportunity to connect with a living witness to some of the 20th century’s most pivotal historical events.
Amadyyev’s military service began at the age of 23 when he was deployed to the front lines. He gained his first combat experience during the critical defense of Moscow as a soldier in the 150th Rifle Division. His journey through the war continued until its conclusion, at which point he was serving within the 135th Cavalry Regiment of the 52nd Division, demonstrating resilience and bravery throughout multiple campaigns.
For his exceptional valor, particularly during the historic Berlin operation, Amadyyev was decorated with the Order of Glory (III degree) and the Medal for the Capture of Berlin. He was later awarded the Order of the Patriotic War (I degree) in recognition of his service. Today, his remarkable longevity and heroic legacy continue to inspire citizens across Turkmenistan, serving as a testament to the strength and spirit of his generation.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
