WSJ: ChatGPT occasionally makes pseudoscientific claims

Source

The Wall Street Journal reported on cases where the ChatGPT neural network began to issue false and strange statements, causing anxiety in users.

According to the publication, the archive of correspondence from May 2023 to August 2025 shows that after communicating with the chatbot, some people begin to lose touch with reality.
For example, in one of the dialogues, a gas station employee from Oklahoma discussed the concept of the "Orion Equation" with ChatGPT. He admitted that the conversation made him anxious. In another case, the neural network claimed to be in contact with extraterrestrial beings, calling the interlocutor a "Starseed" from the planet Lyra.
Doctors described this phenomenon as "artificial intelligence psychosis." Even the most fantastic views can be confirmed in correspondence with the neural network, reinforcing people's delusions, notes Hamilton Morrin, a psychiatrist at King's College London. Human Line founder Etienne Brisson added that personalizing chatbot responses could lead users to perceive themselves as messiahs or prophets.
