Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan Exchange Border Villages in Land Demarcation Process
25 Jun. 10:38As part of the ongoing state border demarcation operations between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, the two neighboring nations have successfully completed an equivalent exchange of border territories and villages. According to a report by "Daryo.uz," citing Askat Alagozov, the press secretary for the President of Kyrgyzstan, the villages of Chongara and Tashdepe have formally transitioned into Kyrgyz territory. Previously administered under the Fergana Region of Uzbekistan, these settlements are home to roughly 2,500 ethnic Kyrgyz residents who will now be eligible to claim Kyrgyz citizenship.
In return, Kyrgyzstan transferred land plots of equal measurement along the border zone to the jurisdiction of Uzbekistan. Furthermore, the two republics exchanged land packages totaling 236 hectares between the villages of Say and Tayan to facilitate the construction of a strategic highway. According to Kyrgyz official data, this infrastructure layout will allow residents of the Batken Region to travel from Aydarken to Batken much faster, cutting the transport corridor down to just 55 kilometers from the previous 225-kilometer route.
