The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially unveiled a series of reforms regarding the nomination procedures for the Academy Awards. These changes are set to take effect starting with the 99th Oscars ceremony in 2027. The updated protocols aim to align the voting system with contemporary film production realities and expand opportunities for participants across various fields.

A significant shift in policy now allows actors to receive multiple nominations within the same category for different performances. Previous restrictions have been lifted, meaning that if an actor’s various roles receive enough votes to place them in the top five, all of those performances can be officially nominated. However, the condition remains that the actor must be credited in the film and must provide personal consent for each submission.

In the Best Screenplay category, the Academy has established a strict filter regarding artificial intelligence technologies. Only scripts authored solely by humans will be eligible for consideration. The organization reserves the right to request comprehensive information regarding the extent of AI involvement in the writing process and to verify the authenticity of authorship to prevent generative models from being credited as primary creators.

Substantial updates were also applied to the Best International Feature Film category, which now permits more than one entry from a single country. Furthermore, an automatic qualification system has been introduced for the winners of six major global film festivals, including Cannes, Venice, and Berlin. Technical requirements were also refined for categories such as Best Casting, Best Cinematography, and Visual Effects to ensure a more rigorous selection process.
