Turkmenistan and Russia mark 34 years of strategic diplomatic partnership

Over the decades, the bilateral dialogue has evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership founded on mutual trust, respect, and constructive cooperation. In an official publication, the Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Ivan Volynkin, noted that the relationship between the two sovereign states has reached a mature stage characterized by deep institutional ties and successful joint initiatives.
A defining feature of the relationship is the close coordination within the framework of major international organizations, particularly the United Nations. Russia has consistently supported Turkmenistan’s peacekeeping efforts and its international status of permanent neutrality. This shared approach to global security issues is exemplified by the joint support for resolutions promoting international trust and regional stability, highlighting a unified vision for a peaceful and sustainable Central Asian landscape.
The year 2025 served as a significant milestone in diplomatic history, featuring a high intensity of state visits and summits. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov conducted key visits to Russia for major international events, while President Vladimir Putin visited Ashgabat to participate in the high-level forum dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality. These top-level engagements have solidified the political foundation for expanded economic and humanitarian cooperation between the two nations.
In addition to executive-level dialogue, inter-parliamentary and inter-departmental cooperation has seen substantial growth. Recent agreements between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Federation Council of Russia, alongside structured consultation plans between foreign ministries, have established a robust framework for future interactions. This multifaceted cooperation ensures that the partnership continues to adapt to modern challenges while fostering long-term prosperity for the citizens of both Turkmenistan and Russia.
