In a bid to expand its diplomatic and economic footprint within Southeast Asia's rapidly growing markets, Turkmenistan has initiated high-level talks with regional integration bodies. During an official meeting in Jakarta, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Ahmet Gurbanov, met with the Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Kao Kim Horny. The bilateral session focused on assessing the current state of relations and outlining concrete steps to diversify partnership channels between Turkmenistan and the ten-member bloc.

The diplomatic dialogue verified Turkmenistan's strategic interest in cultivating robust ties across critical industrial segments, including international transport connectivity, energy supply chains, mutual trade, investment facilitation, digital economy frameworks, and technological innovations. Additionally, both representatives highlighted the importance of establishing active exchanges in high-tier science and education, tourism development, and cultural-humanitarian programs to build stronger socio-economic foundations between Central and Southeast Asia.

The agenda also covered global development priorities, specifically targeting the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change adaptation strategies, food and energy security matrices, and digital transition initiatives. Concluding the session, both officials emphasized the necessity of transferring technical expertise and training highly qualified personnel across specialized sectors, agreeing to maintain a continuous, structured dialogue to monitor the progress of joint initiatives.

On-the-Go Power: Japanese Engineers Develop Wireless In-Road Charging for Electric Vehicles

In a major leap for electric mobility, Honda R&D, alongside Taisei Corporation and Taisei Rotec, has unveiled an innovative dynamic wireless charging system that charges electric vehicles as they drive. By embedding compact energy-transmitting modules directly into the road surface, the system transfers power via a magnetic field to receivers mounted underneath moving vehicles. Designed to withstand heavy commercial transport up to 20 tons, real-world road testing is scheduled to begin in Japan in April 2027.

The technology eliminates the need for full road reconstruction, as modules can be integrated directly into milled asphalt layers. Aimed at boosting charging power up to 150 kW in future iterations, this infrastructure solution promise to significantly reduce grid pressure on traditional charging stations, particularly for logistics and commercial fleets.
