Representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan participated in the first Central Asia – European Union Interparliamentary Cooperation Forum held in Samarkand on March 30-31. This landmark event provided a platform for legislators from both regions to engage in a high-level dialogue on pressing global challenges and strategic development goals. The participants focused on fostering mutual understanding and creating sustainable frameworks for cooperation that benefit both Central Asia and the European community.

During the forum, the Turkmen delegation highlighted the consistent international support for Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality and its role in promoting global peace. A key point of the discussion was the initiative proposed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly to declare 2028 as the "Year of International Law." The Turkmen representatives emphasized that this initiative reflects the country's unwavering commitment to the rule of law and the strengthening of the UN's central role in international affairs.

The delegation from the Mejlis actively contributed to three thematic sessions, providing insights into the successful national programs implemented in Turkmenistan. These presentations covered a wide range of topics, including environmental protection, the enhancement of legal frameworks for international cooperation, and the promotion of regional security. The forum underscored the importance of such interparliamentary formats in addressing ecological well-being and establishing a solid legal foundation for future joint ventures.

The discussions also addressed economic priorities, such as the development of transport corridors, the promotion of investment projects, and ensuring reliable access to energy resources. Furthermore, the representatives exchanged views on improving cooperation in science, education, and tourism to foster closer ties between people.
