Turkmen Artisans Showcase Traditional Material Heritage at International Crafts Forum in Megri
20 May. 07:34A cultural delegation from Turkmenistan participated in the V International Crafts Festival, convened in the city of Megri under a thematic framework emphasizing creative solidarity and sustainable development. The multi-nation cultural forum served as an institutional platform for operational exchange among master artisans, ethnographers, and cultural experts representing several CIS nations, Georgia, and Iran.
During the structural exhibition, the Turkmen delegation curated an extensive display of authentic applied arts that reflect the region’s unique historical manufacturing techniques. According to statements published by the ministry of culture, the country's pavilion—featuring intricately designed hand-wrought jewelry, masterfully woven carpets, traditional embroidery, and bespoke regional souvenirs—attracted significant analytical interest from international attendees.
The preservation of physical artifacts was augmented by an ethnographic musical program designed to communicate the nation's intangible cultural assets. Traditional folk vocalists, known as bakhshi, delivered live renditions of classical folklore and epic songs. This musical component provided the international audience with an audible contextualization of the historical and philosophical foundations of the region's art.
The international convention in Megri focused strategically on integrating ancient handcraft methods into the contemporary creative economy while promoting cross-border museum and artisan partnerships. The active involvement of Turkmen specialists highlights the country's foreign cultural policy aimed at validating national heritage globally and strengthening transnational humanitarian cooperation.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
