The Shabat Border Trade Center, situated on the Turkmen-Uzbek frontier, has reported a steady increase in trade turnover since the beginning of 2026. According to the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, the center has successfully facilitated a significant flow of goods, proving to be a vital asset for regional economic integration. This growth highlights the strengthening commercial ties between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, driven by simplified trade protocols and tax exemptions.

During the first quarter of the year, approximately 60,000 Uzbek citizens visited the center to purchase various goods. Turkmenistan’s exports through this hub reached over 1,700 tons, with high demand noted for domestic products such as fresh tomatoes, soft drinks, confectionery, and high-quality textiles. The center serves as an efficient platform for Turkmen producers to reach a wider regional audience, showcasing the country’s growing manufacturing capabilities.

On the import side, more than 250 tons of goods were brought into Turkmenistan from Uzbekistan via the Shabat hub. Key imports included dried fruits, household items, and textile products, which contribute to the diversity of the domestic market. A major incentive for this vibrant trade is the policy under which all transactions conducted within the center are exempt from customs duties and other related taxes, significantly reducing costs for both businesses and consumers.

Established in late 2025, the Shabat Border Trade Center is a testament to the strategic partnership between the two neighboring nations. By providing a duty-free environment, the center not only boosts economic activity but also fosters closer social ties between the bordering communities. As the facility continues to evolve, it is expected to play an even more prominent role in the trans-regional logistics network and the overall economic prosperity of the area.
