Strategic development plan approved for new urban settlement in Mary region
07 Apr. 18:04A large-scale urban development project has been launched in Turkmenistan, involving the construction of a modern township in the Imambaba gengeshlik of the Yoloten district, Mary province. This initiative is formalized by a Presidential Decree as part of the National Program for the socio-economic development of the country for the 2022–2052 period. The project is designed to enhance regional infrastructure and significantly improve the living standards of the population by providing high-quality housing and services.
The implementation of the construction program is scheduled to take place in several phases between 2026 and 2030. The new settlement is expected to function as a self-sustaining urban unit, integrating residential complexes with essential social facilities and advanced utility networks. By adopting a systematic approach to regional planning, the government aims to stimulate local economic growth while ensuring equitable access to modern amenities in rural areas.
The Ministry of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan has been mandated to finalize the general master plan for the new township within a three-month period. To ensure rigorous oversight of the construction processes, a specialized directorate will be established under the ministry’s jurisdiction. This body will be responsible for technical supervision and quality control, ensuring that all architectural and structural elements adhere to the approved national standards.
The project emphasizes the integration of sustainable building practices and modern architectural aesthetics. Innovative technologies and durable materials will be prioritized to ensure the longevity and efficiency of the new infrastructure. The establishment of this administrative and residential hub in the Yoloten district represents a key milestone in the nation's long-term strategy to modernize regional territories and foster comprehensive national prosperity.


Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
