President of Turkmenistan initiates the construction of a major new residential township in Mary Region

On April 8, 2026, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov attended a historic groundbreaking ceremony for a new, large-scale modern township in the Yoloten district of Mary Region. Designed to accommodate 4,500 families, the project is a centerpiece of the national strategy to modernize rural living standards and promote regional economic growth. Addressing the participants, the President emphasized that providing high-quality, accessible housing remains a fundamental objective of the state's social policy.

The new residential complex, led by the Ministry of Architecture and Construction, will span over 800 hectares of land. The master plan includes the construction of 4,500 single-story homes, featuring three- and five-room layouts designed to house more than 22,500 residents. Each residence is engineered to meet contemporary standards, ensuring maximum comfort, energy efficiency, and a sustainable living environment for future generations.

The township's infrastructure follows a comprehensive "smart community" model, incorporating a full array of essential social services. Plans include six schools for 720 students each, eight kindergartens, modern clinics, a cultural center, a shopping mall, and a mosque with a 1,000-person capacity. To ensure independent functionality, the project also integrates dedicated technical facilities, including high-capacity power substations, water purification plants, and advanced telecommunication networks.

Scheduled for phased implementation between 2026 and 2030, the construction is expected to significantly boost the local economy in the Yoloten district by creating numerous jobs. This ambitious initiative reaffirms Turkmenistan’s commitment to comprehensive regional development, ensuring that residents in all parts of the country benefit from modern infrastructure and improved social welfare systems.

















Turkmenistan Develops Bio-Agent to Neutralize Methane Emissions

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
