Hero of Turkmenistan and renowned cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko has completed advanced training in remote control for the "Progress" cargo spacecraft produced by "Roscosmos." He performed complex tasks using the Tele-operator Control Mode (TORU), sharpening his skills for docking procedures at the International Space Station (ISS). Kononenko has been appointed as the commander of the backup crew for the 76th expedition to the ISS, a role that demands extensive experience in orbital operations.

Typically, cargo ships dock with the station automatically; however, crews must be prepared for manual intervention if the automated systems fail. During training, Kononenko practiced manual docking using specialized controls to guide the ship remotely. The cosmonaut mastered various emergency scenarios, including recovering control of the spacecraft in the event of an onboard computer failure or an incorrect approach angle, ensuring that the mission remains on track despite technical difficulties.

Oleg Kononenko was born in 1964 in the city of Turkmenabat (formerly Charjew), Turkmenistan. A graduate of the Kharkiv Aviation Institute specializing in aircraft engines, he embarked on his first space flight in 2008.
