New Hydro-Technical Facility Commissioned Along Garagum River in Ashgabat

An official opening ceremony was held in Ashgabat for a newly constructed water-regulating and locking hydro-technical facility situated along the course of the Garagum River. According to a report by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH), the operational launch took place on July 1. This strategic infrastructure asset is specifically engineered to significantly upgrade the capital's municipal water management systems and optimize the distribution of utility and drinking water supplies.

The complex was constructed by the "Interbudmontaj" company, acting under the direct corporate procurement order of the Ashgabat City Chancellery (Hyakimlik). Technical evaluations of the engineering blueprints indicate that the facility possesses a maximum water-throughput capacity of 181 cubic meters per second. This functional volume allows municipal engineers to execute real-time flow regulation and maintain safe water levels heading into the urban metropolitan grid.

All operational and technological processes within the hydro-technical layout are fully automated, utilizing advanced digital control frameworks. The physical adjustment of the heavy flow-control gates is handled via electromechanical methods managed through an integrated computer monitoring grid. This technological integration ensures precision management over hydrological distributions while minimizing manual operational workloads.

The structural blueprint of the utility complex incorporates a main control and dispatch post equipped with a dedicated backup diesel-generator system to protect against external power loss. For unified data routing, this communication hub has been directly linked to the corporate telecommunications network of the "Garagumderýa" production association. The site also includes underground storage reservoirs, high-performance pumping stations, and localized electrical substations.

During the inaugural walkthrough, attendees were provided with a detailed tour demonstrating the technical specifications and operational capabilities of the new facility. To conclude the official event, outstanding construction workers and field engineers who demonstrated exceptional performance during the execution phase were presented with valuable gifts on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan.

Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.

Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.

This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
