To commemorate World Health Day, extensive cycling marathons and diverse sporting events were organized in the capital Ashgabat, the city of Arkadag, and all provinces of Turkmenistan. The nationwide initiative aimed to promote physical fitness and environmental awareness, drawing participation from government officials, students, athletes, and the general public. These events showcased the country’s robust sports infrastructure and its commitment to fostering a healthy society.
In the capital city of Ashgabat, the cycling event commenced at the "Bicycle" monument and followed a route through the city’s main avenues, concluding near the Ruhyyet Palace. Simultaneously, the city of Arkadag hosted its own marathon starting from the "Taychanak" monument square. Both cities integrated cultural performances and musical shows into the sporting schedule, creating a vibrant atmosphere that celebrated both health and national heritage.
Regional celebrations mirrored the enthusiasm of the capital, with distinct routes planned in each province. From the coastal city of Balkanabat to the historic streets of Mary and Turkmenabat, thousands of participants took to their bikes to support the national health movement. In Dashoguz, cyclists covered a 10-kilometer route along the Andalyp Avenue, highlighting the widespread nature of the event which reached even the most distant regional centers.
The successful execution of these mass cycling events underscores Turkmenistan’s strategic focus on public health and the integration of sport into daily life. By involving all sectors of society, the nation continues to strengthen its reputation as a promoter of active living and ecological responsibility. These annual activities serve as a cornerstone for community engagement, encouraging citizens to maintain long-term wellness and participate in the country’s ongoing social development.


Specialists at the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, led by Durdymyrat Gadamov and Altyn Rahmanova, have developed a new-generation bio-agent designed to neutralize soil methane emissions. The solution utilizes local bacteria adapted to the regional climate, which harness methane monooxygenase to convert methane into carbon dioxide and water.
Methane is a major contributor to global warming, with a heat-trapping capacity in the atmosphere significantly higher than that of carbon dioxide. The newly developed bio-agent features high efficiency in industrially congested areas, cost-effectiveness through the use of local raw materials, and complete safety for human health and the environment.
This scientific breakthrough aligns with Turkmenistan's sustainable development strategy, supporting its commitments under the Global Methane Pledge to enhance environmental oversight in the energy sector.
