Students at Nazarbayev University have successfully developed a Mars rover capable of exploring uncharted terrains, scouting for natural resources, and navigating autonomously in extremely harsh environments without relying on GPS systems. The development was reported by the Informburo news portal.

The initiative began a few years ago when student Egine Agajanyan, alongside a group of like-minded peers, decided to establish a dedicated space robotics design team. The first functional prototype of the rover was assembled within a few months and has since undergone continuous technical upgrades.

The engineering project has already earned international acclaim, securing a spot among the top 17 competitors at the Australian Rover Challenge and the top 18 at the Canadian International Rover Challenge. This achievement marks them as the first team from Central Asia to qualify for and compete in these high-level global engineering championships. Backed by corporate sponsorship from "Kazzinc," the student team is currently engineering the next generation of their Mars rover as they prepare to compete against leading technical universities at the upcoming engineering challenge in Australia.
