Kazakhstan Implements Mandatory Digital Entry Authorizations for Foreign Visitors
13 Aug. 14:58The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan is preparing to introduce mandatory digital entry authorizations for foreign nationals traveling to the country. Under the proposed regulatory updates, all foreign travelers—including citizens of Eurasian Economic Union member states who previously enjoyed simplified entry procedures—will be required to obtain prior clearance.
Pursuant to the new framework, visitors must apply for the authorization through the dedicated "QazETA" digital platform at least 72 hours prior to their intended arrival. Once issued, the electronic permit will remain valid for a period of 180 days. While the registration process will initially be offered free of charge, authorities plan to introduce a service fee at a later stage.
The rollout of the digital system will be executed in sequential phases, beginning at major international airports before expanding to land border crossings, including highway and rail checkpoints. The phased implementation is designed to allow technical infrastructure upgrades, particularly at remote border posts currently facing limited internet connectivity.
The governing decree setting forth these entry conditions is currently undergoing final interagency review among government bodies. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to digitize migration management and enhance border security monitoring.
