Historic Second Place for Young Turkmen Chess Players at the Central Asian Championship

From July 20 to 29, the Central Asian Chess Championship with a classical time control was held in the picturesque city of Cholpon-Ata (Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan), bringing together the most talented young chess players in the region. The tournament featured 12 categories for boys and girls under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 years of age.

The performance of the Turkmen national team was a particular point of pride, as they claimed 2 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medal, earning an honorable second place in the overall team standings.

Uzbekistan took first place with a total of 16 medals, including 6 gold. The host team, Kyrgyzstan, also won 6 medals, 2 of them gold, just like Turkmenistan. However, they were having fewer silver medals (their remaining 4 medals were all bronze). Kazakhstan followed with 6 medals (1 gold, 5 silver), while Tajikistan rounded out the top five with 1 gold and 1 bronze.

It is also worth noting that among the five Central Asian countries, Turkmenistan had the smallest delegation – just 15 players, 6 of whom won medals. This demonstrates the high efficiency and skill of our athletes. As expected, Kyrgyzstan had the largest team with 192 participants, followed by Uzbekistan with 129, Kazakhstan with 72, and Tajikistan with 17. A total of 425 boys and girls took part in the championship.
