FIFA has officially directed the Egyptian national football team to remove the seven stars from their match kits ahead of their appearances at the 2026 World Cup. The regulatory update was reported by sports journalist Mikey Junior via his official account on the X social media platform.

The seven stars positioned directly above the national team's crest represent Egypt's historic seven titles in the Africa Cup of Nations. However, under standard FIFA equipment regulations for final tournaments, member associations are strictly prohibited from displaying stars referencing continental triumphs; only victories in the FIFA World Cup itself can be commemorated with stars on the shirt. Continental title badges are only permitted during qualifiers and international friendlies.

Additionally, FIFA's tournament equipment guidelines have banned the Egyptian team from using metallic gold coloring for the player names and numbers on the back of their jerseys. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is currently underway across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with Egypt competing in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran.
