A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held in the village of Delakeu, Anenii Noi district, Moldova, to honor the memory of the prominent Turkmen writer and war hero Nurmyrat Saryhanov. The event was attended by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, the head of the Anenii Noi district administration, public figures, and local students. Participants gathered to pay tribute to the writer-soldier who fell in May 1944 during the fierce battles for the liberation of Moldovan territories from fascist occupation.

Nurmyrat Saryhanov, the celebrated author of classic works such as the novella "Shukur Bakhshi" and the short story "The Book," made an enduring contribution to national literature. The year 2026 marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of this literary master, who was born in 1906 in the village of Yzgant. His creative legacy and heroic biography remain a vital cultural link between the two nations, symbolizing a shared historical memory of the events of the Second World War.

The memorial complex in the village of Delakeu, situated at a mass grave of soldiers, underwent extensive renovation following an initiative by the leadership of Turkmenistan. The restoration project was carried out with the support of the Moldovan authorities and was fully funded by the Turkmen side. The renovated site, which serves as a landmark of resilience and courage, was officially inaugurated in 2017 with the participation of high-level delegations from both countries, highlighting the site’s diplomatic importance.

Annual ceremonies at the monument in Moldova reflect deep respect for the sacrifice made by the Turkmen writer. Attendees noted that preserving such historical landmarks is essential for educating younger generations in the spirit of patriotism and international harmony.
