The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has officially announced the postponement of the final draw for the 2027 Asian Cup. The event was originally scheduled to take place on April 11 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. According to the AFC press service, the decision was made to ensure the maximum participation of all stakeholders and to facilitate a high-level organizational process. A new date for the official draw has yet to be determined and will be announced in due course.

This decision follows a series of recent adjustments to the Asian football calendar due to the evolving situation in the Middle East. Previously, the AFC had postponed several AFC Champions League fixtures, and Qatar had temporarily suspended its national league, alongside the cancellation of the highly anticipated "Finalissima" match between Argentina and Spain. Despite these logistical changes, the 2027 Asian Cup finals are still set to be hosted by Saudi Arabia from January 7 to February 5, 2027.

Turkmenistan’s national team remains in a strong position as they fight for a spot in the prestigious continental tournament. Led by head coach Rovshen Meredov, the Turkmen squad is preparing for a crucial clash against Thailand on March 31 at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The match, kicking off at 17:30 Ashgabat time, is expected to decide the winner of Group D. Turkmenistan currently tops the group with 12 points after five rounds of intense competition.

While Thailand also has 12 points, Turkmenistan holds the advantage due to their superior head-to-head record. In June 2025, Turkmenistan defeated Thailand 3-1 in a home match in Ashgabat, which now places them in a favorable position for the final matchday. The winner of Group D will secure direct qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka sits in third place with 6 points, and Chinese Taipei has yet to earn a point in this qualifying stage.
